During Friday’s Russell County Fiscal Court meeting, Governor Matt Bevin announced $139,000 in discretionary funds for vital resurfacing work on Tarter Lane, Woolridge Schoolhouse Road and A.B. Roy Road. Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, raveling, and base failures. This significant investment supports the Governor’s commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.

“We are pleased today to announce $139,000 in discretionary transportation funding that is being made available to the Russell County community,” said Gov. Bevin. “Local officials have worked closely with our Transportation Cabinet team to identify priority projects, as we invest in infrastructure upgrades that will significantly enhance safety, access, and economic opportunity.”

Russell County Judge-Executive Gary Robertson identified these roads as being among the most critical in the county.  

“I would like to thank Governor Bevin and KYTC Rural and Municipal Aid for their continued support in helping the Russell County Fiscal Court keep our county road infrastructure maintained for our citizens,” said Judge-Executive Robertson.

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.

“Modernizing local infrastructure is one of the best routes to attracting and keeping businesses in a community,” said Sen. Max Wise. “Through increased safety and roadway improvements, these resurfacing projects are directly impacting Kentuckians and their communities. I would like to extend my appreciation to those involved for prioritizing Russell County in their resurfacing plans.”

The roads set to be addressed provide access to more than 40 homes and multiple side roads.   

“I appreciate Governor Bevin recognizing the continuing needs of our county and this part of the state,” said Rep. Jeff Hoover. “This money will help address some infrastructure needs.” 

The Russell County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.

Resurfacing work will address:

• Tarter Lane (County Road 1637) – resurfacing 0.628 miles
• Woolridge Schoolhouse Road (County Road 1131) – resurfacing 1.04 miles
• A.B. Roy Road (County Road 1367) – resurfacing 0.722 miles
