The  2019 Homeplace on Green River Shakespeare in the Barn season will open April 13 with Robert Brock telling the story of the Gospel of John.  Brock presents the Gospel as a storyteller, which is how early Christians shared the Bible in an age where manuscripts were hand-written, and most people could not read.

Brock, who brought Smoke on the Mountain and Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona to the Homeplace stage last summer, is an assistant professor and director of theater at Lindsey Wilson College.  Before coming to the college, he was artistic director at the Kentucky Repertory Theater from 2002 until 2010.  While there he produced 86 plays.  Brock has performed The Gospel of John numerous times. He also portrays Mark Twain,  and Billy Herndon, who was born in Green County and was Abraham Lincoln’s law partner and a good friend.

There is no ticket charge to see and hear Brock’s performance, but there will be an opportunity to donate to help cover the cost of production and building maintenance. The performance will begin at 7:00pmET (6:00pmCT). Advanced reservations are recommended and can be made by calling or emailing Phil Hanna at (270) 384 2894 cphanna51@msn.com

If you have questions about performances in the barn or other events at Homeplace check the Web page at www.homeplacefarmky.org, the Facebook page at Homeplace on Green River Kentucky, or leave a message at (270) 789-0006.

Homeplace on Green River is located at 5807 New Columbia Road (Hwy 55) about 12 miles north of Columbia and 5 miles south of Campbellsville in Taylor County. It was established in 2001 as a joint effort of Adair, Green and Taylor counties and is managed by a board of directors that includes members from all three counties. A list of board members is on the Web page.

Campbellsville Elementary School students can receive free breakfast, lunch & supper.

Campbellsville Board of Education members recently created a FREE supper feeding program for the school, to coincide with the school’s after-school enrichment programs. The program began on Monday, March 4, 2019. A free supper is provided to all CES students from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays. No transportation provided, and parents and guardians who would like to eat supper with their children can do so for $3.50 a meal. Students are welcome to eat their supper at the school or take it to go. Campbellsville Independent Schools students already receive free breakfast and lunch.

Plans are in the works to begin the program at Campbellsville middle and high schools in the 2019-2020 school year. CES Cafeteria Manager Shelly Wilson is overseeing the Supper Feeding Program. Menus for the free supper feeding program are posted on the CIS social media accounts. For more information, call Petett at (270) 465-4162.

J.O.Y. Ministries is kicking off its campaign to raise $12,000 to build an emergency shelter for the homeless on the county parking lot beside the 911 Call Center.

A thermometer at the historic Courthouse will track the progress of this campaign. Earlier this winter, Adair County agreed to rent J.O.Y. a portion of the parking lot for the purpose of building a shelter to be maintained by J.O.Y. and its volunteers and donations.

To build this building, J.O.Y. is asking the community to step forward to donate funds towards the project. Already, J.O.Y. has received a $1,000 private grant from the Motz Corporation and a $1,200 gift from the local Ministerial Association to kick off the project. For years, the Ministerial Association housed homeless folks. Now, they are supporting J.O.Y. to take the reigns on this effort. A portion of the offering at the Association's Lenten Services will go towards the building project.

If you are interested in donating, please send a check to J.O.Y. Ministries at P.O. Box 114, Columbia, KY 42728 with the word "Shelter" on the memo line. You can also give via PayPal at www.joy-ministries.org and write "Shelter" in the notes section. If you have any questions, please contact Maggie Coleman at 704-281-3055.
