The Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, Wheet Fellowship Hall will once again serve as the collection site for Operation Christmas Child, the worlds largest Christmas project of its kind. The annual Samaritan's purse project is a favorite of many Adair County residents, families, churches and groups who spread the joy to millions of children around the world by filling shoeboxes with a wow item--like a doll or soccer ball--other fun toys, school supplies, hygiene items, other items as well as notes of encouragement.

"Through the simple act of filling a shoebox, someone in Adair County can make a tangible difference in the life of a child halfway around the world. Anyone can participate and bring joy to a child facing difficult circumstances," said local volunteer Denise Fudge, who has participated in Operation Christmas Child for many years. After the shoe boxes are packed, Operation Christmas Child will distribute them in Jesus's name to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine.

Individuals can also include a $9 donation which is critical to transport and deliver each shoebox gift. The nine dollar shipping contribution provides for the collection, processing, and shipping of shoebox gifts to more than 100 countries. It also provides ministry material such as the greatest gift gospel booklet which children receive alongside their shoebox gift.

During national collection week, November 12-19, 2018, Adair County residents hope to contribute more than 3,600 gift filled shoeboxes to the 2018 global goal of reaching 11 million children in need.

Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift filled shoeboxes to more than 124 million children in more than 150 countries and territories. For many of these children, a gift filled shoebox is the first gift and only gift they will ever receive. For more information about how to participate in Operation Christmas Child call 270-634-2919 or visit the website at samaritanspurse.org/occ.

The Adair County central drop-off location will be at the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene "Wheet Fellowship Building", 1200 Jamestown St., Columbia, KY.

Collection week hours of operation are as follows:

Sunday Nov. 18th, from 2pmCT to 4pmCT
Monday Nov. 19th, from 9amCT to 11amCT
