Amos Johnson, of Elkhorn, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home. He was 85.
Born on February 12, 1939, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Abner and Allie Rodgers Johnson. Amos formerly worked at Fruit of the Loom and Wolford & Wethington as a night watchman. He was a deacon at Victory Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing gospel music.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. “Jean” Clements Johnson, who he wed on May 13, 1961; two sons, William (Cathy) Johnson of Campbellsville and Matthew Johnson of Elkhorn; two daughters, Barbara Bishop of Elkhorn and Sandra (Pete) Ferrer of Liberty; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Marcum, Dorothy (Kenneth) Rodgers, and Elva (Junior) McFarland; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Johnson and Kelley Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Vergie Hatfield and Retha McGuire; five brothers, Kermit “Gene” Johnson, Manuel Johnson, Shellie Rodgers, Russell Johnson, and Ricky Johnson; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Josh Estes officiating. Burial will follow in Caney Fork Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
